S22-VAT-0011 Italy 1000 lire XF 1997 KM190
A 1997 bimetallic 1000 Lire of Italy celebrating the European Union. This first issue is the famous 'wrong map' variety, which shows the old pre-unification divided Germany. It was withdrawn and re-struck with a corrected map (KM#194), making the original more collectable.
Obverse: Female head of Italia facing slightly left, wearing diadem. Legend REPVBBLICA ITALIANA L. 1000.
Reverse: Map of the European Union with a divided (old, pre-unification) Germany — the famous 'wrong map' variety that was quickly corrected. 12 stars around.
