S22-C01-0006-M37 Italy 50 lire UNC 1999 KM183
A copper-nickel 50 Lire of the Italian Republic, struck at the Rome Mint in 1999 — one of the final years of Italian lira coinage before the adoption of the euro. This modernised design replaced the iconic Vulcan type and was engraved by Laura Cretara, one of Italy's most celebrated coin engravers.
Obverse: A female head with a towered crown facing left, hair swathed in fabric — an allegorical representation of Italy. Legend REPVBBLICA ITALIANA L. CRETARA.
Reverse: Inside a large circle, the denomination 50 LIRE with the date above. In the outer ring, a series of design elements drawn from other Italian Republic coins: a bunch of grapes (5 Lire), a laurel branch (100 Lire), an oak branch (20 Lire), a cornucopia (1 Lira), and a toothed wheel (200 Lire) — a nostalgic tribute to the full Italian lira series.
