A late-issue aluminium 10 Lire of the Italian Republic, struck at the Rome Mint in 1997 — only a few years before the Italian lira was replaced by the euro. With a mintage of just 1,500,000, the 1997 issue is considerably scarcer than earlier years in this long-running series.
Obverse: A plough, symbolising agriculture and Italy's rural heritage. Legend REPVBBLICA ITALIANA above with the date 1997 and mintmark R below. Designed by Giuseppe Romagnoli, engraved by Pietro Giampaoli.
Reverse: Two ears of wheat flanking the denomination 10, with the designer's name ROMAGNOLI below.
