A warm-toned Bronzital circulation coin of the Italian Republic, struck at the Rome Mint in 1991. The 20 Lire KM97.2 is the smooth-edge variant of Italy's iconic 20 lire series, introduced in 1968 following reformulation of the Bronzital alloy that overcame earlier production difficulties.
Obverse: A female head facing left, her curly hair adorned with wheat sprigs — an allegorical figure representing Italy. Legend REPVBBLICA ITALIANA with engraver's name GIAMPAOLI below. Designed and engraved by Pietro Giampaoli.
Reverse: An oak branch in the centre, with denomination L.20 to the left, mintmark R below, and date to the right. The oak symbolises strength and endurance.
